What is HomeSight?
HomeSight is a non-profit Community Development Corporation that wants
to help make buying your first home a reality! We offer
first-time homebuyer education, financial counseling, purchase
assistance, new home development, and
1st mortgage
originations.
Can I use HomeSight's purchase assistance in any county?
Our purchase
assistance is currently available in select target areas of Seattle, South King County, and all
of Snohomish County.
How do I get started?
First, register for our
"The American Dream:
Fundamentals of Homeownership"
class.
After attending this class,
schedule a
Financial Assessment
with one of our
counselors to determine eligibility for down payment
assistance. When you are ready to purchase you will take our
Financial
Series
which explains
the process of buying and maintaining a home.

No,
you can take the class wherever it is convenient for you.
How long
are the classes?
"The American Dream: Fundamentals of Homeownership"
class is 1 1/2 hours and the Financial Series is approximately 5 hours.
I already took a class from another program, do I still have to take
HomeSight classes?
Yes, if you want HomeSight Purchase Assistance you will need to go
through our education and financial assessment programs.
How long will it take to schedule a Financial Assessment?
After
attending
"The American Dream:
Fundamentals of Homeownership"
class, you
can schedule
your appointment right there in person with the instructor/counselor!
Since we schedule on a first-come-fist-serve basis, appointment
availability varies.
What are the qualifications
for
HomeSight
Purchase Assistance?
You may qualify
for purchase assistance if you satisfy the following:
< You have not owned a
home in the last 3 years
<
You complete all the HomeSight education and counseling
requirements,
and
< Upon
purchase assistance approval, you purchase a home in
select
target areas of Seattle, S. King, or
Snohomish Counties.
How long does it take before I can purchase a home?
Since each person's situation is unique, you will want to schedule a
Financial Assessment with one of our counselors to discuss how
long the process may take you.
I met with someone at HomeSight a while ago, can I re-open my file?
You will want to call us
so we can check to find out if you need to retake any classes or
schedule another Financial Assessment.
I
have a disability. Do you have specific programs that can
assist me?
In partnership with The
Washington State Housing Finance Commission (WSHFC), HomeSight
provides counseling for HomeChoice clients
(see
below).
Though HomeSight doesn't have a "specific" program for those with
disabilities -- all 1st-time home buyers are encouraged to go
through our program and if qualified, receive our purchase
assistance.
The WSHFC has a program called HomeChoice for those living with a
disability or living with a family member that has a disability.
For additional information please visit their website at -
www.wshfc.org/buyers/homechoice.htm
Will I get a loan if I go through the HomeSight Program?
It depends on individual
circumstances and what you may qualify for in purchase assistance. You need to meet with a
counselor to find out if you are qualified.
How do I know what I qualify for?
Since it depends on individual circumstances, you
will need to meet with a counselor to determine what assistance you
qualify for.
I found a house I want to buy
right now, can you help me?
There is some groundwork to cover before you qualify for any
purchase assistance. We require our clients take our education
curriculum and meet with a counselor to find out how much assistance you
may qualify for.
