HomeSight Trains Interpreters in Home Financing

HomeSight applied and received a $10,000 grant from Bank-On Seattle, an initiative of the Seattle King County Asset Building Collaborative, to train interpreters to be knowledgeable with aspects of home financing.

We developed a whole day seminar that will allow the interpreter to be familiar with:

• Mortgage terminology
• Consumer rights with regards to mortgage lending
• Required mortgage documentation
• Legal closing documentation
• Different mortgage loan products

After being fully trained, interpreters will then be certified as a “Home Financing” interpreter. To date, 20 interpreters have been certified in the following languages:

• American Sign Language
• Bosnian
• Cantonese
• Mandarin
• Russian
• Filipino (Tagalog)
• Japanese
• Spanish
• Vietnamese

Two more classes have been scheduled: April 3rd, 2010 and May 1st, 2010.
