Statement of Equity

HomeSight’s mission is to promote social and economic equity to preserve and enhance economically and culturally diverse communities. We secure public and private funding to provide homeownership classes, counseling, and loans to low- and moderate-income households around the state, and to develop affordable homeownership homes within Seattle and South King County. We partner with communities that have been historically excluded from decision-making processes, to support their inclusion in decisions that affect them, and to advocate for equitable community development outcomes. We support individual and community ownership of assets so the diverse communities we serve can control and shape their futures. We work with communities to advocate for and leverage resources, increase the choices and opportunities available to them, and implement community-driven vision and solutions.

Recognizing that people of color have historically and systematically been excluded from decisions that impact them, and have suffered disproportionately from unfair policies and practices, HomeSight is committed to fostering racial equity in our work and communities, to create prosperity that is truly shared by all.

We believe a community thrives when it has access to the opportunities and resources necessary to create homeowners, build strong small businesses, and root community anchors that serve as the social and cultural centers for our community. We also believe that reaching equitable and inclusive outcomes may require unequal distribution of resources, and we work with the community to advocate for those investments.

Our internal structure, policies, procedures, and commitment to staff and board development is our internal mechanism for holding ourselves accountable.

We define equity, diversity and inclusion as follows:

Equity is just and fair treatment and access to opportunity, resources, advancement and supports for all people based on where they are and where they want to go. Equity involves striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups and increasing justice and fairness within the procedures and processes of institutions or systems, as well as in their distribution of resources so that they too can, prosper, and reach their full potential. Recognizing that people start from different places, equity may require unequal inputs to reach equal outcomes.

Diversity includes all the ways in which people differ, encompassing the different characteristics that make one individual or group different from another. Our definition includes race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, religion, disability, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, family structure, language, and physical appearance. Our definition also includes diversity of thought: ideas, perspectives, and values. We also recognize that individuals affiliate with multiple identities.

Inclusion is the degree to which diverse individuals are able to fully engage in authentic and empowered participation in the decision-making processes within an organization or group.

HomeSight understands that a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion requires continual learning and growth in our workplace and communities – we promise to continue to learn and grow.
